54 Senior Students Passionately Share How They Avoid “First-year” Mistakes on ZOOM

Our popular workshop “Mistakes I Made in My First Year” (2021) was held via ZOOM on September 7, 2021, with the participation of more than 130 first-year students across a wide spectrum of Faculties.

To support students’ transition to university, this workshop successfully addressed the common mistakes that first-year students might make in areas such as academic planning, course selection, time management, help seeking and many more transition difficulties. With case sharing and introduction of AASO’s academic advising tools, the participants had gained a better grasp of how to survive their first semester at HKU and how to cope when things went awry.

The main session was followed by 15 concurrent breakout sessions which were led by 54 passionate senior students coming from different Faculties, covering a variety of programmes and majors/ minors. Through the thoughtful “Dos and Don’ts” and replies to different questions posted, senior students shared their insights and wisdom with the new students which demonstrated the true spirit of the student advising community.
