“Mistakes I Made in My First Year” Workshop Empowers First-Year Students through Peer Experience Sharing

Date: September 21, 2023

Transitioning into university life can be challenging for first-year students, and they commonly face adjustment difficulties during this period. To address this issue and provide valuable guidance, our signature workshop, “Mistakes I Made in My First Year,” was held on September 21, 2023 at CPD-LG.10.

The workshop kicked off with a quiz game to test and enhance the new students’ understanding of essential university regulations that would shape their academic planning. It was heartening to witness the majority of students displaying a commendable level of knowledge in this area, setting a strong foundation for their academic journey. Following the quiz, the workshop aimed to dispel myths and clarify misconceptions surrounding crucial aspects such as course selection, major/minor exploration, study abroad planning and coursework workload planning, By addressing these misconceptions, the workshop aimed to help students avoid potential pitfalls that could hinder their academic progress and lead to undesired consequences.

The highlight of the event was the panel-sharing session. 4 enthusiastic senior students from different faculties took the lead in presenting their personal recommendations, encompassing the dos and don’ts, and the biggest lessons learned derived from their own first-hand experiences. Two of the sharers were also scholarship recipients who generously shared their effective study methods. More than 50 first-year students actively participated in the Q&A session and the night was concluded with a joyful exchange of thoughts.
