Our workshop “Mistakes I Made in My First Year 2020″ was held successfully via ZOOM on September 7, 2020 which had attracted almost 200 first year students. This unique and practical workshop focused on how “ACTION” and “INACTION” taken by students in the first year impacted their overall learning progression and outcome. As indicated by a large number of participating students during the first part of the workshop in an online polling, time management and balance between studies and activities were seen to be the top two challenges encountered by freshmen;
In the 12 concurrent sessions following the main session, we were very happy to have 50 senior students across all 10 Faculties, covering a wide spectrum of programmes and majors/ minors, shared their first hand learning experience with the first year students from their own Faculties. Each sharing student had prepared 5 Dos and 5 Don’ts for surviving the first year at HKU and these tips were found to be immensely practical and useful.
