Tribute to a Passionate Teacher – the late Professor Betty Ho
Professor Betty Ho May-Foon, one of the most loved teachers of all time at the HKU Faculty of Law, passed away in 2010. In remembrance of her dedicated teaching at the University for fourteen years, a group of her students, colleagues and friends set up the Betty Ho Essay Prize on Contract Law in 2014. The Prizes will be awarded to undergraduate law students. Her elder brother, Dr Gallant Ho Yiu-Tai (BA, 1965) also set up the Betty Ho Prize in Law in remembrance of her in 2012.
Professor Ho was a prolific scholar who published widely in the areas of contract, corporate and securities law. She made immense contributions to scholarship and was highly respected in the legal community. Her works had a profound impact on the development and reform of corporate and securities law in Hong Kong.
Professor Ho also had a deep commitment to make an impact on the development of the legal system in China and, as a result, she meticulously translated all of her own work from English to Chinese herself. In 2002, she left HKU to teach at Tsinghua University in the Chinese Mainland.
Professor Ho was a passionate teacher who had inspired and changed lives of many of her students.
