For matters related to admission, please visit the website of our Admissions Office at https://admissions.hku.hk/. Their FAQ section is very useful too: https://admissions.hku.hk/faqs.
Q2.2 What is advanced standing? Am I eligible to apply for it?
Advanced Standing refers to credits that may be granted to a student in recognition of studies successfully completed prior to admission to the University (e.g., IB or GCE A-level qualifications for students who have completed seven years of secondary education). Such credits are granted to advance the student’s academic progress and may enable them to shorten their overall study period or undertake a lighter course load.
The number of credits to be granted, if any, is determined by the student’s home Faculty. These credits will not be included in the calculation of GPA but will be recorded on the student’s transcript.
Students interested in applying for advanced standing should do so as soon as possible upon admission and before the deadline stipulated by their home Faculty. For further details, students should contact their home Faculty Office.
