Since its establishment in the 1970s, the Dr Mary Hui Ling Li Memorial Scholarships have benefitted over 100 medical students. Many of them have become highly successful in their respective medical fields with hearts forever grateful to those who helped them along the way. The scholarship was set up by Mr Kwei Wah-Shan (桂華山) in loving memory of his wife, Dr Mary Hui Ling Li (李惠齡).
Many years after their graduation, one of the scholarship awardees, who wishes to remain anonymous, contributed $1 million to the above scholarship pool in tribute to Mr Kwei, the original scholarship donor. He echoed the donor’s mission of investing in the next generation. “This scholarship helped me realise that I should one day contribute and give back. This is a small thing I can do. And this is the right thing to do.”
The Dr Mary Hui Ling Li Memorial Scholarships are tenable to students pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or the Master of Research in Medicine (MRes[Med]) programmes at any year of study on the basis of academic merit, and of Christian faith if the candidates are of equal merit.
