East meets West in Medical Research

A new fellowship scheme was established with the generous support from Professor Vivian Taam Wong (黃譚智媛教授), Mr Thomas Chan (陳俊豪先生), Fong’s Family Foundation (方潤華基金) and the Fong Shu Fook Tong Foundation (方樹福堂基金).

It is the first scheme designated to benefit medical students with research interests in Integrative Medicine (IM). Preference shall be given to students reading for the HKU-King’s College London Joint PhD programme, with HKU being the home institution. The award will cover composition fees and other expenses related to the students’ research.

As an Advisor and former Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority and Honorary Professor in the HKU Medical Faculty, Professor Wong has been one of the pioneers and ardent advocates of IM. With the goal of providing the best treatment for patients, she has committed herself through research, education and knowledge transfer of IM to forge the amalgamation of Western and Chinese medicines.

It is hoped that, through this fellowship, passionate and outstanding postgraduate students would be attracted to engage in IM research at HKU.
