HSBC has a long history of supporting tertiary education and nurturing young talents since its beginning in Hong Kong. Though various scholarships schemes, it seeks to encourage bright minds to maximise their potential and become community leaders who make Hong Kong, and even the world, a better place in the future.
Chan Pui-Lam (BSocSc Politics & Public Admin Year 2), one of the recipients of the HSBC Hong Kong Scholarships and is concerned about marginalised neighbours in our community. “I aspire to be a humanitarian practitioner and help with the well-being of immigrants and refugees in Hong Kong. I also wish to foster better public understanding of immigration and refugee issues.”
Rosand Tse Lok- Sang (BSocSc Psychology Year 2), another recipient, is an advocate for better mental health and aspires to be a clinical psychologist. “There seems to be a wide spread of depression among the public. I would like to broaden my horizons and delve into the world of positive psychology, a newly founded subject that examines the factors that promote positivity and bring happiness to society.”
HSBC Scholars Day was held on June 29, 2017, at which recipients of scholarship schemes, such as the HSBC Overseas Scholarships, the HSBC Social Work Scholarships, and the Innovation & Technology Scholarship, gathered to celebrate their achievements. At the celebration, previous HSBC Scholar Melody Fung Hiu- Ying (BSW 2016) performed on the guzheng on behalf of the HKU scholars to express their gratitude.
